Trump with Japan Delegation

International News: US President Donald Trump met the Japanese trade delegation on Wednesday, which is considered an important step in global trade relations. Trump called the meeting as "big progress", especially at a time when concerns about American tariffs around the world are increasing and a possible recession is being feared.

Japan started talks

Japan was one of the first countries that started tariffs related to America. This meeting was to see if the Trump administration would change its strict stance or not. Japan saw this meeting as only giving information, and did not expect that Trump himself would join it. The purpose of Japan was to discuss trade and investment, but Trump's presence made it even more important.

More meetings in future

After the meeting, the two countries agreed to hold another meeting later this month. Japan's Economic Reconstruction Minister Ryosei Akazawa said that Trump assured the agreement with Japan to give a "top priority", although the issue of currency exchange rates was not included in the discussion.

Stir in money market

After the meeting, the dollar price increased by 0.54% against the Japanese yen. Several chief officials including US Finance Minister and Commerce Secretary also attended this meeting.

Alert stance of Japan

Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba said after the meeting that the talks will not be easy, but President Trump has promised to prioritize it, which will affect further talks.

Talks plan with European Union and Korea

The White House reported that Trump will soon hold talks with the European Union and South Korea on tariffs. Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni is also going to meet Trump at the White House.

Japan to "First Mover Advantage"

The US has imposed tariffs up to 24% on Japan, although these fees have been postponed for 90 days. Japan may get a chance to get "First Mover Advantage", as the US has received requests for talks from more than 75 countries.

Discussion on deployment of US Army also

Trump also expressed his intention to discuss the payment made by Tokyo for the deployment of the US Army from Japan. However, Akazawa refused to comment on it.

Trump's displeasure over trade deficit

Trump has been expressing displeasure over America's trade deficit with Japan and other countries for a long time. He says that the trade policies of these countries are harmful for American companies.

Proposal for investment in Alaska Gas Project

The US Commerce Secretary also stated that Japan may consider investing in a multi-Arab dollar gas project in Alaska, further strengthening the trading relations between the two countries.
